(THIS MEETING IS FOR FORUM MEMBERS ONLY)

1.0.    Mr Cowley and Mr Street attended the DACCWA AGM on Thursday 15th May 2008.  Murray and Colin reported to the meeting that DACCWA are a powerful organisation and give West Devon NHW security by belonging to a much larger group.  The following was discussed at the AGM:-

ACC Netherton

ACC Netherton spoke at the AGM and stated that 200 officers would be placed back on the beat.  No time scale was given but it is believed over the next 12 months.  ACC Netherton asked all NHW members to encourage people to report crime to ourselves or via Crime Stoppers (Crime Stoppers 0800 555 111).

He reminded us that you do not have to have a uniformed officer call at your home but you need to say this when you make the initial call so that it can be logged.  ACC Netherton also asked that anyone who has a problem reporting crime via the 08452 777444 to let the Police know.   If no one complains we will not be aware of the problem - complaints help us to improve how we work and deal with the public.

The next DACCWA meeting will be held in July and one of the topics will be ID cards for Co-ordinators.

NHW website

In June 2008 a new National NHW web site will be launched.  I can’t give you the details today because the site name may get changed slightly.  I will pass on as soon as the information is available.

NHW Co-ordinators

A thank you was passed onto all co-ordinators for their continued hard work and support and also asking them to keep in contact with their members as much as they are able to.  If you find through mobility, age, illness etc. that you are unable to do as much as you used to, consider using village notice boards, local meeting places, shops etc. to get your information into the community.

Community Messaging

CMS is the way the Police feed information out to the public to inform you of crime trends, crimes for which we need help and details of scams etc.   If you would like to be part of Community Messaging ask your PCSO or NBM for an application form.  You can receive messages via the telephone or email system.

Horse Watch

Gina Dale who runs Horse Watch and sits on the board of DACCWA requested more help in getting information relevant to Horse Watch and spreading this information to others.   If anyone has a love of horses and would like to assist Gina or would like to receive the Horse Watch Newsletter, please contact her on 01837 840716.  She would be especially interested in anyone willing to put the newsletter on parish notice boards, local shops etc.

2.0     P.A.C.T.  Partners and Communities Together  UPDATE

Not everyone will have filled in a PACT form in West Devon, but many of you have.   The results of this survey have enabled the neighbourhood teams to identify the needs of their communities.   The full results of this survey will be put on the force web site in due course.

We do not have the Okehampton results, but the three top themes for the Tavistock side of the patch were Facilities for young people, traffic issues and Anti Social Behaviour.  These three headings will be actioned by the local Neighbourhood Police Team, full details of which will be placed on the Force website.   www.devon-cornwall.police.uk

3.0     200 Officers back on beat.

The Forum asked WPC Frost to report back on how many officers West Devon will receive and how they will be deployed.  WPC Frost stated that this information has not yet been decided and will get back to the Forum when details known.

4.0     John Whiting asked WPC Frost if she would give a talk to Parish Councillors and others regarding NHW.  Bridestowe had previously been let down by Police and it was important to do this as soon as possible.  This was agreed and John will supply possible dates a.s.a.p.

5.0     CO-ORDINATORS AND DEPUTY CO-ORDINATORS MEETING

These meetings are to give everyone the chance to meet the forum and discuss NHW in general and what the future holds for West Devon.  Two dates have been provisionally booked to hold these meetings - Wednesday 8th October for Tavistock and Wednesday 15th October for Okehampton.   Venues yet to be organised so dates may have to be altered accordingly.  The Forum has chosen to meet both sides of the patch to limit the amount of travelling for Co-ordinators.

It is intended if possible that all 10 forum members will be on hand to speak to you together with as many PCSO’s and NBM’s as possible.  The meeting as always will be informal and refreshments will be provided.  More details to follow.

6.0     WEST DEVON NHW FORUM AND WEST DEVON CRIME PREVENTION EVENT

One of the things the Forum would love to put together is a NHW event in West Devon.  Any major event takes a lot of planning so the forum are now looking to 2009 to do just that.

More details in the future.

7.0     Any other business - none

End of meeting.
